How to Maintain Blonde Hair Colour

In this article I’m going to give you my favourite secrets on how to maintain blonde hair colour in between salon visits.

You know the saying “Blondes Have More Fun”? I bet they’re not right now!

Calling all blondes! Calling all Blondes! This one is for you!

Girl, the struggle is real for you right now! That’s why I thought it would be good to dedicate this blog to you. Let me offer some advice on how to maintain your blonde, as we quarantine, together.

Aru is known for producing some amazing work in or hair salon, when it comes to blondes. Our stylists have been deemed Masters of Blondes and we want you to help them keep this reputation by caring for your hair at home.

Maintain Blonde Hair Colour At Home

I am offering you some EASY-to-follow steps to maintain a healthy mane. This goes for everyone, not just blondes. My objective here is to ensure you are not neglecting your hair and reminding you that it is important to have healthy hair for when the time comes when we re-open our doors and handle your regrowth and ensuring you have done your part in preparing for this.

Step 1 – Pour yourself a Quaran-tini – Just kidding, but not really. But that should really be step 1.

Let’s try that again…

Step 1 – Do not depart from your regular routine.

Try to maintain as much normalcy as possible in your hair (and skincare ) routine. Use your home-care products as recommended by your stylist and remember, there is no shortage of products, we will gladly deliver (or you can pick up) hair care (and skincare) to you if you are running low or are completely out.

Kerastase Blond Absolu Cicaplasme Hair Serum

A must-have for blondes is the Kerastase Blond Absolu Cicaplasme Hair Serum – this is a great product for air drying, as well as providing heat protection if you wish to hot style your hair. This product will leave your hair feeling silky smooth, shiny and soft without weighing it down.

Another option is the Shu Uemura Essence Absolue All-in-One Hair Milk.

Step 2 – Do not sleep with wet hair.

This is a step that I don’t always follow myself – hey, I’m a working mom with a busy schedule, sometimes the only time for me to have a shower is at night! – to all the other busy working moms, you understand! Even if I am fortunate enough to have a (hot) shower…to myself…during the day…I tend to air dry my hair. And, just because I don’t use hot tools regularly, doesn’t mean I don’t use product.

For those of you who sleep with wet hair – stop – but if you can’t help it, I highly recommend you use the Kerastase 8h Magic Night Serum. Apply to your DAMP hair (assuming you have squeezed out as much water as you can!) and braid your hair before you lay your head to rest. It is preferred and recommended that you braid your hair when it’s completely dry, as when you sleep with your hair wet, it is at its most vulnerable state. When your hair rubs on your pillow the cuticle bursts open and that is how you get breakage and rough, dry hair.

Step 3 – No need for hot tools.

If you sleep with your hair in a braid, this will give you a nice beachy wave when you let your hair down, so, give your hot tools a rest, your hair will appreciate you for this! Rock the disheveled, beachy, sex-head look!

And lastly…

Step 4 – Let it all hang out!

Well, you know what I mean…let all your hair down! When you constantly have your hair tied up, you risk breakage and for you Blondies, your hair is already stressed out so, there’s no need to stress it out more! If you find you’re doing things that leave you no option than to tie it up, be sure to use an Invisibobble or a ‘dede’ Scrunchie.

Ok, so now that you’ve done your part in maintaining healthy hair, let’s talk about some other ways you can protect your blonde.

Are your roots growing out? If you’re an Aru Spa and Salon hair client, we can help with your root colour during this quarantine. Check out this article, Hey, Your Roots Are Showing!

How to Protect Blonde Hair

For the Ashy Blondes…for those who prefer more of a silver/purple/cool tone our stylists recommend you use either L’oreal Color Corrector Blonde or Nook No Yellow Shampoo. These products provide toning and will inject its underlying pigment in your hair.

To the White Blondes…our stylists recommend you use Kerastase Blond Absolu Masque Ultra Violet. This is for those who don’t prefer your hair to be too silvery and you don’t want the warmth. This is a very purple mask that will combat the yellow in your hair, leaving a white blonde result. This mask will seal the cuticle, leaving your hair soft, hydrated and airy.

And, for all the Natural Blondes, Shu Uemura Color Lustre Shade Reviving Balm – Cool Blonde is what we recommend. This product is good for those who are sandy/darker blonde. The lighter violet will not leave your hair looking over-toned or muddy. Instead, it will leave the hair looking toned, natural, and shiny.

Don’t forget, our products are available to you by contacting us at  in**@ar****.com , just let us know what product you would like and we can schedule a time for pick up or if you’re local, we’ll be happy to deliver to your doorstep.

Have fun caring for your blondes! And remember, step 1 – pour yourself a Quaran-tini!
